L’Algérie est qualifiée pour le Mondial 2010 grâce à sa victoire 1-0 sur l’Egypte dans le match d’appui disputé à Omdurman (Soudan).

Algeria protesters clash with police for second day

Protesters threw stones and petrol bombs at police in Algeria’s capital on Tuesday in a second day of clashes over housing conditions.

Tens of young men were throwing missiles from the edge of a shantytown at about 300 police in riot gear at the opposite side of a road, a Reuters reporter said.

Chinese migrants in Algiers clash

About 100 local residents and Chinese migrant workers have clashed in the Algerian capital, some brandishing knives and rods, reports say.

Ten Chinese migrants were injured and two Chinese shops looted, Reuters reported, citing a Chinese diplomat.
Violence flared after a confrontation between a shop owner and a migrant in the city’s Bab Ezzouar district.

Algerian soldiers ‘die in ambush’

Islamist militants have killed at least 15 Algerian soldiers and injured 20 in an ambush, reports say.

The attack happened outside Tipaza, about 100km (60 miles) from the capital, Algiers, but there was no official confirmation of the incident.
The death toll could rise as many of the injured were seriously wounded. Reports suggested five militants died.

Court backs Algerian extradition

A UK court has approved the extradition of the Algerian former head of a business empire that collapsed in a massive scandal.

A lawyer for Abdelmoumene Rafik Khalifa, the former businessman, told AFP news agency that he would appeal.
The extradition must also be approved by UK Home Secretary Alan Johnson.

Algeria win away to Zambia in World Cup qualifier

Algeria beat Zambia 2-0 in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday to go top of African zone Group C.

Suspected Islamic militants killed eight policemen and two college teachers in an attack on a police convoy in the east Algerian region of Boumerdes, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.
