Congolese warlord jailed in landmark case
Central Africa, Congo, Democratic Republic of the, Trials — By AfricaTimes on July 10, 2012 10:58 amCongolese warlord Thomas Lubanga Dyilo became the first person to be sentenced by the International Criminal Court on Tuesday, when judges sent him to jail for 14 years for recruiting child soldiers.
Lubanga was found guilty in March of abducting boys and girls under the age of 15 and forcing them to fight in a war in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
About 60,000 people were killed in eastern DRC in a five-year war around the turn of the century.
