S.Africa’s rand firms 1.8 pct against dlr

South Africa’s rand gained 1.8 percent against the dollar on Friday to its strongest level in more than a week, tracking a firmer euro after European leaders agreed to lower Italy and Spain’s borrowing costs.

The local currency touched a session high of 8.2495/dollar and was at 8.2641 by 0927 GMT compared with Thursday’s close of 8.4010.
