Algeria win away to Zambia in World Cup qualifier
Algeria, Sport — By AfricaTimes on June 20, 2009 10:04 pmAlgeria beat Zambia 2-0 in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday to go top of African zone Group C.
Rangers defender Majid Bougherra put the visitors ahead in the 22nd minute with a header and striker Rafik Saifi made sure of the points midway through the second half.
Algeria have seven points from three matches, three more than Zambia. Rwanda and Egypt both have one point from two games. The group winners will qualify for next year’s World Cup in South Africa.
Algerian last qualified for the World Cup in 1986 and have missed out on the last two African Nations Cup finals.
