Madagascar plans to hold presidential elections in October 2010, according to resolutions agreed on Friday at the end of two-day reconciliation talks in the Indian Ocean island.

Madagascar’s new leader Andry Rajoelina had pledged to hold elections within 24 months of his rise to power this month. The army-backed transition has been condemned as a coup by foreign leaders and they have called for quick elections to restore constitutional order.
